Studio Tour is this weekend!

WHAT!!! Studio Tour is this weekend and guess what? I am ready!!! Yeah baby! Usually this time I am freaking out cause I am in no way ready!! But thanks to some really really late nights, I was able to achieve readiness! I have only a few things left to do, like paint the wall, patch some holes in the wall, paint some boards and hang them on the wall and attach little knot things to vases. But other than that, I am ready for this thing!! Tomorrow I am going to start on my moms space! Lots to do in there. I also still have to price everything! No biggie though.
I am sorry that I haven't written in a while, I've been busy. I have three months until my next show, and I plan to have lots for that. I am in the habit of making lists before shows, that way I know what I am supposed to make, it keeps me on track!! Last year when I did the Bakersville Creek Walk Festival I had a list and made everything that was on that list!! I was able to fill a booth!! That having had been my first real outdoor show that I had ever done. Anyways....
So this is Studio Tour weekend! I think it's going to be really really good for me this year. My fingers are crossed. I say this because I had a good month of May at the craft shop, something I wasn't expecting. So I am basing that on Studio Tour. That I am going to sell lots of work and make lots of money! I have been making these cute little vases with bird imagery on them, I would like to make a screen of the bird that way I don't have to trace every single one.
I am also this year donating bowls to Empty Bowls something I am very excited about doing! I have never done that before. I went to a Clay Club meeting at John Hartom's studio and got inspired to help!! I have 24 bowls that I am going to donate and I might make more if I have time. Oh, big news!! I am going to Western Piedmont Community College where I will be getting a degree in professional crafts in sculpture in the fall, super excited about it too! I won't have to do any academics since I am all finished with them!!! So I am hoping that I will have time to get these bowls finished before school starts and have work made and finished for the Creek Walk show! I hope that I will be ready for that show. Three months!!!! Lots of work to make for that one!! I also have galleries that need new work, after Studio Tour, I plan to take some of my work to some of those galleries.
Next year I am putting work in Taupe, a gallery in North Wilkesboro and I am also going to jury into Flow, a gallery in Marshall. So I have to have work for them. But my plan is to after the December tour to just work and make lots of new things and make my lists and get work to galleries. I also want to jury into the Penland gallery as well.
Anyways........ I have to get back to work. Thank you for being patient as it has been while since I have written anything. And as always thank you for reading.
      Stay tuned.
I will post pictures of new work in the next day or so.

New bowls

Here it is! I have been sitting around the studio all day trying to figure out how I was going to decorate these 20 bowls that I made last night! After looking through books to find inspiration, I found it!! I love this image! It is so simple. This is just a test bowl that I will be keeping so.... But I will have 20 of them for sale in June at my studio!
This is what I am working on tomorrow! :) I am thinking about using different colors behind the crow like on my little vases, haven't' really decided that yet! Like maybe do five in one color and so on. Don't know as of yet! I will figure this out tomorrow!  Oh yeah I also have to decorate 40 ingredient bowls tomorrow!
Good night and thanks again for reading. Stay tuned.

New works, same directions!

Hello readers!!
It makes me happy to know that people are actually reading my blog! And for that I thank you! When I first Started blogging, I was kind of scared when I saw that people were reading what I was writing!
Anywhoo, I pulled work out of the kiln on Friday morning! I was as you know getting ready for the Studio Tour exhibit, which you will be happy to know I got my work in on time!! So, I pulled work out of the kiln at around 7 or so in the morning, and I was overcome with joy! The work that I had in the kiln came out perfectly!! I was smiling for hours afterwords. While I had a lot of gluing to do I was still really happy!
This is one of the jems that came out of the kiln the other day. Along with two domed vases at the top! I added the knotted balls of clay.
These little babies also came out the kiln! They are so freaking cute!!! The inside is a really deep yellow, they should look really nice with flowers in them!
This piece is the biggest wall platter I think I will ever make! I would like to make another one at another time. I might not have one in time for this upcoming Studio Tour, perhaps December!? We will see.
Anyways if you haven't already followed me on twitter please be sure to do so @triaturrougirl and like me on Facebook/triaturroustudios

Finishing things up

Tonight I have been glazing trying to finish up some pieces that are going to go into the craft shop, I finally finished glazing them!!! YAY! I have also been painting a small shelve unit that my mom bought for display purposes. I am going to use it at the craft shop to display my small ingredient bowls. I went down to the craft shop today to see about setting it up and the bowls would not stay up, so I brought the whole thing home and glued down some thin strips of wood and guess what that fixed it, so now I am painting the shelves and will take it back down to the shop tomorrow and set up my ingredient bowl display(I will take pictures once I have it set up).
On my way back from the craft shop this evening I was thinking about making more ingredient bowls, like with skulls in them and birds, then I had the thought to use this decals transfer paper behind the bird image!

Perhaps trying something like this only on a smaller surface and with a bird thrown in! It's just something is on my mind I suppose.
I will post more pictures of completed work for the studio tour exhibit and pictures of finished vases when they come out of the kiln on Friday!
Once again I would like to thank you for reading and as always stay tuned!

Hello!!! I just unloaded the kiln and pulled some fantastic pieces out of the kiln. They are still so hot they are pinging away! every time one of them pings it scares me, I keep thinking that.... never mind don't jinx it! Anyways here are some pictures of what came out of the kiln! I prayed to the kiln Gods for a perfect outcome. Thank you kiln Gods!!!
I was going to put faces on top of these, glad I have since deiced against that one!! A lot of work wen into these.
I think I am going to keep this one! It's my favorite!!

Details of the three.
This is the large platter that I have been working on! I am going to glue flowers onto parts of the hair.
Bird vase series that I am working on!!! Stay tuned with these! Glazing them today! I am really excited about these.

Studio Tour

My shelves are bare!! It is kind of creepy to have them so bare! I took work today down to the craft shop and the shelves are bare. The craft shop opens Friday May 3! I am hoping to finish glazing work to bring in on Wednesday the first. I have to finish putting clear glaze on some bowls and then I have to glaze my vases, if I have any other bisque work I will try to glaze and fire it!
I am currently in the process of getting ready for studio tour. When I tell people that I am working on stuff for studio tour, they always seemed so surprised!! June will be here before we know it! Plus, it takes me so long to decorate stuff anyways. I should have started two months ago, but...
Stay tuned!

Lots going on in the studio

There is a lot of good stuff going on in my studio right now! It makes me happy. I have stayed pretty much consistently busy for the past several months, making new work, firing it, and getting it into galleries, then once everything is out of the studio I'm making more and more work!
Right now I am working on four pieces for this exhibit, and I'm relatively happy with the way they are coming along, glazing wise. I hope they will look cool once finished. My plan is to hang them in my studio before taking them to TRAC, just to see what they will look like. The three round pieces I might have to hang myself, we will see. The other day I started making vases and I am using bird imagery which is something I haven't done, EVER! And I really like the way they look. I have posted some images on my Facebook page. Four of them are kind of going to be like a mini series, I am playing with the idea of multiples and working within a series. I think it will be really fun to be working this way. I have also made some vases that are domed, they look like pills, so I am calling them my pill vases. I love the form I am just not really sure about how to glaze them, or put imagery on them. Again I will post pictures on Facebook.
I am trying to get work together to put in the craft shop for when we reopen on May 3! Actually I have the work I just need to put a clear glaze on them. I also need to finish some platters that I want to put in the shop. I need to be making work for other galleries as well, I just don't know when I will find the time to do so.
I am sitting here tonight in my studio with a list that I made for studio tour and what I am wanting to have for it, making little notes here and there. Deleting items adding items so on and so forth. I keep telling myself that I am going to start on studio tour months in advance, but it never really seems to work that way :(. Studio tour is the second weekend in June, and I have a long list of stuff I want to make. Fingers crossed! As soon as the tour is over I have three months until my next show, which is the Bakersville Creekwalk Festival, a show that I did last year and had fun. But the getting ready part sucked! But, I did make everything that I had on my list, so.
Anyways that is my rant for the night, I guess I have a lot on my mind.

My firing worked!

I opened the kiln this morning afraid of what I was going to find, and as I lifted the top shelf, I breathed a sigh of relief!, top shelf with ingredient bowls is fine! As I made my way further down into the kiln I was thanking the kiln gods for a successful firing! I went to bed last night kind of stressing out about the kiln, wondering if I was going to freak out and have a really really bad day, but I don't think it will be a bad day!
More later.

Is there a plan B?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! So last night, I was drying some things in the kiln and STUPID me left the bottom on medium ALL NIGHT! I am making work for the studio tour exhibit and that is what is in the kiln! I am hoping for a perfect outcome, I am praying to the kiln gods that everything  will come out and be okay!
I did just peep into the kiln and everything looked fine!! My fingers are crossed that everything is alright. Because there is no plan B! I didn't think of that, usually I have another plan but this time I didn't think to!
Thanks for reading! Stay tuned :)

So... I have been trying to finish up some stuff for my upcoming firing. Make heads for a piece that I am working on for the Studio Tour exhibit(something I should have done when I started the piece), finish decorating ingredient bowls, finish up some platters that I keep obsessing over, you know stuff like that.
I am going to try to write something on my blog everyday, I know I have said that before, but this time I mean it! I will keep ya'll updated on the happenings in my studio!

Back to blogging!

Hey party people!!! I am back!! I took time off I know! But, I'm back! I think. I have been busy in the studio making some really awesome work! I have been playing with some molds I made for bowls and I'm making platters! Really fun ones too.

These are the platters I've been working on! They are really fun to make and fun to decorate! I'm just using my imagination to decorate! I have also been making bowls and plates! Totally different from the platters of course. I think the bowls and plates are tame compared to my platters.
These are some of my newest plates. Really fun to make, but maybe not as fun as the platters.
I am going to try to keep up with this blog! I am going to try to make it like a daily diary of what is going on in my studio.
Stay tuned!
